School Equipment Theft & How best to catch a Thief!

Compare: Access Control Systems, Closed Circuit TV, Steel Cables with Padlocks, and LightGard Security System

MORE THAN 95% OF THEFT IN SCHOOLS IS DONE BY INSIDERS!

Since more than 95% of school theft is done by insiders, (students, faculty, cleaning personnel, etc.) school administrators need to rethink what might be the best way for them to catch the thief and thereby not lose their equipment and also to prevent a thief from thinking that he or she can get away with it.

Access Control Systems give the potential thieves access to the school’s buildings, so that is not a very good option for preventing theft. Closed-Circuit TV is not much good either since it does not notify you at the time of the theft and seldom sees the theft. If a theft occurred on Friday and you don’t find out until Monday, you must view many hours of tape to try to figure out who all was in the vicinity over the weekend and guess which individual already has your equipment in their backpack! Most cameras are in the school halls or outside of the buildings and not located inside computer or science labs nor in auditoriums where valuable equipment is found. They therefore rarely see the theft occur. Zero theft occurs in a hallway!

With a LightGard monitored system, you are alerted instantly of a theft. With a properly installed and monitored LightGard System, within less than a minute Campus security, will know the exact time and the room number and building location of the theft! This makes TV worthwhile if your security team can’t get there in time to catch the thief. You would now know exactly what tape to view, but more importantly with the LightGard System, there is a good chance that the thief will be caught by your campus security team before they can get out of the room where he or she is trying to steal something. Your valuable equipment will not be walking across campus in someone’s backpack!

LightGard Fiber Optic loops provide the only way that you can allow valuable equipment to be used and still be protected from theft. Unlike normal alarm systems, with a LightGard Fiber Optic Loop and easy to install attachment devices, you can protect equipment inside of a room full of people while still allowing people to use the valuable equipment. Other alarm systems must be turned off and cannot protect rooms or equipment when people are in them.

Computers and all sorts of scientific equipment are frequently items that are easy for a thief to steal since if unprotected they can be stolen and carried across campus, even during the day, inside a typical knapsack/bookbag. However, it is very easy to protect vulnerable equipment with a relatively inexpensive LightGard Security System which is not only far less expensive than staffing an area with personnel but also does not require lunch breaks, bathroom breaks, vacation or sick leave and scheduling is not a problem. It can be active 24 hours a day 7 days a week for multiple years even as students and faculty are using the protected equipment.

The steel cable and padlock systems, which are unsightly, are also easy to defeat with a $25.00 tool that can be bought at most Home Depot or Lowes hardware stores, and when the steel cable is cut there is no noise or alarm signal sent to your security department. Again, you are left with the unlikely chance that your Closed-Circuit TV system will be of much help.
